Description
Looking to recharge yourself in nature while preparing your students to do the same? Explore the geology, flora, and ornithology of Northern New Mexico while developing an experiential unit for your class unique to your school’s natural environment. This course is open to teachers of all disciplines as we discover opportunities for connection, meaning, and joy in place-based learning. Each day we will collaborate with local experts in a new location: the mysterious and volcanic Valles Caldera of the Jemez mountains, the lush and playful creeks flowing into the Pecos river, and the pinon- and juniper-speckled foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Come as we together discover the natural richness and beauty of this area while reflecting and refining our craft of helping students work in teams to gain knowledge, assume stewardship, and deepen their love for their own communities.

A Note on Registration Fees
The Colloquium continues to be funded through a generous grant from the EE Ford Foundation, as well as participant fees and Santa Fe Prep’s operating budget. We have had to reevaluate our pricing structure this year in light of program expenses. This had led to an increase in registration fees. We are committed to keeping the cost to participants as low as possible while making the program sustainable so that we can offer this exceptional professional development experience year after year.
We also continue our commitment to one of the Colloquium’s founding principles: making a limited number of spaces in each course available to Santa Fe Public School teachers at no cost. If you are a Santa Fe Public School teacher, please contact Summar Aubrey, for more information and to receive a discount code.
