Plein Air Painting in Northern New Mexico Art
The wide open spaces and majestic high desert light has long attracted artists to Santa Fe and the surrounding mesas, canyons, and mountains of Northern New Mexico. You are invited to immerse yourself in these spaces and explore watercolor and acrylic painting as a means for experiencing the environment in a deeper way. We will travel to some of the instructor’s favorite painting spots and get a taste of Northern New Mexican history from an off-the-beaten-path perspective. We will visit Georgia O’Keeffe’s home and studio, and paint from the same hilltops and llanos she did. We will visit Frijoles Canyon and the cliff homes of the early Tewa people and make paintings from the rim of that canyon. Basic painting instruction will be offered, and all skill levels are welcome.
