Plein Air Painting in Northern New Mexico Art

The wide open spaces and majestic high desert light has long attracted artists to Santa Fe and the surrounding mesas, canyons, and mountains of Northern New Mexico. You are invited to immerse yourself in these spaces and explore watercolor, acrylic and oil painting as a means for experiencing the environment in a deeper way. We will travel to some of the instructor’s favorite painting spots and get a taste of Northern New Mexican history from an off-the-beaten-path perspective. Plein air painting will be our focus, but we will also have time for some excursions. We will visit Georgia O’Keeffe’s home and studio, and paint from the same hilltops and llanos she did. We will also visit thousand year old cliff homes of the Tewa people. Basic painting instruction will be offered, and all skill levels are welcome. Painting excursions will not require hiking, but participants should be prepared to paint outside for 2-3 hour stretches.
